Light Environmental¡¯s Variable Low Temperature Vacuum Distillation systems are the result of many years of extensive research and experience. These units are considered one of the most technologically advanced units on the market today. Light Environmental has made Vacuum Distillation user-friendly with its self-contained refrigeration system and easy-to-maintain design. Light Environmental takes the initiative, providing features which are standard on our units but options on the competition. We believe making this very useful technology accessible to a broader market will take this technology to the next level.
Also called Low Temperature Distillation and Cold Vaporization, this technology is a relatively simple and robust method of purifying contaminated water. Contaminants are collected or reclaimed in this process by drawing the influent into a boiling chamber under vacuum, thereby reducing the boiling point temperature and dramatically reducing energy costs.
Evaporation occurs between 85 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The less volatile contaminants remain in the evaporation chamber in concentrated form, and the purer, moisture-laden vapor is carried to the top of the condensing chamber where it collects on a cold coil and condenses into distillate.
The process eliminates the problems of tube scaling with high temperature distillation systems and atmospheric evaporators. Low temperature distillation operates at a fraction of the energy costs of conventional distillers since the evaporation is conducted under vacuum at near ambient temperatures.
Economics of this technology are enhanced in two ways:
- The concentrate may be retrieved for reuse.
- The condensate water may be recycled.
Advantages to our Vacuum Distillation Process:
- Reduces hazardous process removal costs by as much as 95%
- Lower energy consumption than atmospheric evaporation systems because heat from 96¡ã Fahrenheit (35.6¡ã Celsius) steam is recovered for preheat
- Preserves heat sensitive recovered materials for reuse
- Completely self-contained, no external heat or cooling required
